NSW: Police officers agree to suspend bans

New South Wales police officers have agreed to suspend their industrial bans to enter
into further talks with the state government over a pay claim.

But the NSW Police Association warns the bans will be reinstated and could be stepped
up if talks with the government and the Police Service go nowhere.

The union's executive met this afternoon and unanimously agreed to a recommendation
from the NSW Industrial Relations Commission to lift the bans, which have been in place
since Monday.

In the IRC today Commissioner FREDERICK WRIGHT acknowledged the pay dispute at the
centre of the bans is yet to be resolved but said the work restrictions are making negotiations
difficult.

The state's 14,000 officers imposed the work-to-rule bans after rejecting a 16 per
cent pay offer over four years.
