WA: New cyclone following John

The Bureau of Meteorology is warning that a second tropical cyclone is following in
the wake of cyclone JOHN and may cross Western Australia's Pilbara coast tomorrow.

Cyclone forecaster BRIAN BOWASE says Cyclone ILSA has been classified category one
but is expected to be upgraded as it approaches the coast between Broome and Exmouth.

He says it is not uncommon for one cyclone to follow another.

He says it is not possible to say exactly where cyclone ILSA will hit.

Cyclone JOHN, the strongest cyclone ever recorded in Australia with wind speeds of
up to 300km an hour, passed over the tiny coastal community of Whim Creek this morning.

It has been downgraded to a category four cyclone, and wind speeds of 260km an hour
are expected in nearby Roebourne and Point Samson.

Heavy rainfall and flooding is expected across the Pilbara today.
